Plymouth Medical And Dental Schools Celebrating Record Applications

Sample News Big

Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry has received record numbers of applications for places for 2013 courses.

The university received a total of 1675 applications, which equates to 12 per place for Medicine and 10 per place for Dentistry; there were also 14 international applications per place for Medicine and 16 per place for Dentistry.

The figures are based on applications made through UCAS by the deadline of 12th October 2012. The new university medical and dental schools have a total of 80 medical places and 60 dental places plus six international places.

Last year Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry (PCMD) received fewer than 8 applications per place for Medicine and fewer than seven for Dentistry, so there has been a significant increase in applications.

The new schools, known as Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, were formed this year after PCMD was dissolved. Professor Rob Sneyd, new dean, said that the last couple of years have been focused on “winning hearts and minds” and Professor Wendy Purcell, vice-dean, said that the application figures were “testament to the excellence of our medical and dental schools.”
