Plans to expand Burnley dental practice given the green light

Planning officers have approved an application to extend a dental practice in Burnley.

Burnley Council has given a proposal to add a two-storey extension to Queensgate Dental Practice the green light. The extension will be added to the rear of the property and will mean that the current practice will double in size. The additional space will house two new treatment rooms and a ramp will be fitted to improve access.

The application was submitted by the owners of the Colne Road practice in April. The plans included proposals to add the 2-storey extension at the back of the building to expand the range of services available and cater for a larger number of patients. There were objections, mainly due to the fact that the surgery doesn’t have its own car park, but councillors have backed the plans. Some councillors, along with representatives from the highways authority, rejected proposals as a result of a lack of parking close by, but others said that the practice provided a useful service to local people and was well-established and respected within the area.

Sue Graham, ward councillor, said that the clinic had been open for 40 years and parking had never been an issue before, so she couldn’t see why it would become a problem now. Street parking is available, and the practice is located on a bus route. Councillor Marcus Johnstone also supported the plans, saying that it’s difficult to find a dentist in Burnley.
