Plans for new dental surgery in Aberdeen could be scrapped

Plans to turn a rundown shop into a dental surgery may have to be abandoned because the owner of the property has been unable to recruit dental staff.

The property, which used to be a dog grooming parlour, was purchased in 2007 with a view to converting the shop into a dental practice. James Fairley, the owner, submitted an application to convert the premises into a dental surgery, which was approved by the council; however, little work has been done to the property since and the former shop has fallen into a state of severe disrepair.

Mr Fairley owns a design and building company in Fintray; he had wanted to turn the property into a dental surgery once the planning permission had been approved. Mr Fairley said that a new surgery would be a great business opportunity, which would be welcomed by the local people; however, he is finding it extremely difficult to recruit dentists.

Mr Fairley revealed that he has been waiting to hear from a couple who had been interested in developing the property; however, they have not been in contact and Mr Fairley says it is now time to move on and the shop will be demolished within the next three weeks. He still hopes to realise the dream of a new dental practice but it is looking increasingly unlikely. Local people and councillors are becoming increasingly anxious and angry at the state of the shop, which is boarded up with chipboard and surrounded by litter.
