Plans For New Dental Lab in New South Wales Abandoned

Plans to build a new, ultra-modern dental laboratory in Cowra, New South Wales, have been abandoned.

Race Dental, a firm based in Sydney, proposed converting the old Woodstock Silo site into a dental laboratory in a scheme that would cost more than $10 million. However, managing director, Brad Race, said that the firm had abandoned plans due to finances and poor electricity supply to the proposed site.

Mr Race said that the plans were not viable because of a lack of regulation by the Federal Government; currently, Chinese companies are operating much lower costs and the prices they charge are considerably lower than those in Australia, which means that the firm would be unable to manufacture restorations at a competitive price.

Mr Race confirmed that the eight employees currently working at the firm’s pilot site would be keeping their jobs, although they would no longer be working in dental operations.

Mr Race also added that the recession had caused problems for the firm, especially as he believes that he received poor financial advice with regard to updating the power supply to the proposed site. The plan is now to sell the silo site.
