Plans to open a brand new NHS dental practice in Boston, Lincolnshire, have been given the green light.

Planning officers have approved a change of use application for 30 Market Place, paving the way for the new surgery to open in January 2019. The clinic is one of four new NHS practices in the area, which are opening as part of a £34 million investment in Lincolnshire’s dental services.

The proposal was put forward by JDSP Dental Limited, the chain responsible for managing all the new local practices. The premises were formerly used for financial services, but a planning officer’s report suggested that there were no problems related to converting the property to a dental surgery.

The practice will provide hundreds of additional NHS dental places in Boston, and it will also offer extended opening hours. All four new JDSP clinics are expected to open all year-round, with some open on bank holidays. Appointments will be available until 8pm on weekdays and at the weekend. The other practices will be located in Sleaford, Lincoln and Spalding and a replacement service will also be introduced at Johnson Community Hospital. All the new clinics are expected to open in January. In total, it is anticipated that 40,000 people will benefit from the funding boost over the course of the next few years.
