Pinner Dentists Pound the Pavements for Mouth Cancer Charity

A dental team from Pinner has successfully completed a 10k walk to raise money for charity.

The team from Apple Dental Studios took part in the annual Mouth Cancer Foundation walk in Hyde Park earlier this year, raising almost £300.

As Mouth Cancer Action Month launches across the UK, the practice is again looking to clients and the general public to support them, as they offer free screening checks and information and advice about mouth cancer. Throughout the next few weeks, the practice will be supporting the campaign, which is run by the British Dental Health Foundation in conjunction with the Mouth Cancer Foundation and Denplan.

This month, the team will be encouraging patients and other local residents to visit the surgery for a free oral screening test. The test only takes a few minutes and it’s not painful in any way. It helps to highlight potentially abnormal changes in the soft tissue before they become visible to the human eye. Early diagnosis is incredibly important in the fight against oral cancer, as the chances of survival are up to 90 percent higher.

Oral cancer affects almost 7,000 people every year, yet awareness is still relatively low and sadly this means that many cases are diagnosed when cancer is already advanced. The aim of Mouth Cancer Action Month is to educate people about the causes and symptoms of oral cancer and to encourage as many people as possible to have a screening test.

A spokesman for the clinic said that the charity walk was fun and also incredibly inspiring and this is a cause that the practice wholeheartedly supports.
