A group of dentists in the Philippines have raised money for a program, which aims to educate people on how to handle firearms safely.

At least 50 dentists joined forces to raise money for the cause by taking part in a shooting competition. The money will be used to train dentists on how to use guns and firearms safely with a view of reducing the risk of robbery and increasing defence against thieves.

The competition took place at the Camp Karingal firing range in Sikatuna Village in Quezon City.

Dr Arturo de Leon, president of the Philippine Dental Association, said that it was important for dentists to learn how to defend themselves and their property against thieves. Dr de Leon said that thieves were taking advantage of vulnerable dentists, including female members of staff. The aim is to equip dentists with the knowledge and training to enable them to come up with innovative solutions and effective defence procedures in the event of robberies.
