Peterlee fish and chip shop set to become a new dental practice

A former fish and chip shop in Peterlee is set to become a new dental practice.

An application to change the use of a vacant unit at Castle Dene Shopping Centre has been approved by Durham County Council. The submission from Salford Estates relates to changing the use of the premises to D1 status, which covers non-residential services. The  premises, which are located on Yoden Way, were formerly used as a fish and chip eatery, but the site has been empty for some time.

After reviewing the proposals, council planners agreed that the plans were acceptable and would pose no risks in terms of health and safety or noise pollution to surrounding properties or residents.

The application has now been approved and in a statement, planners suggested that a new dental practice would “add to the vitality and viability of the Castle Dene Shopping Centre bringing back a vacant unit into use and encouraging further footfall.”

Now that the application has been given the green light, work on the new clinic is set to commence in the new year. Under the conditions of planning approval, the project must be completed within the next three years
