A dentist from Perthshire is training hard to try and reach the qualifying time for the 1500 metres at the Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Glasgow later this year.

Morag McLarty is currently just one second away from the minimum time for the event and is working extremely hard to try and get under the barrier in time for the Games, which kick off on the 23rd July.

After competing at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006 and finishing eighth in her heat of the qualifying round, she is determined to get into the team for this year’s Games. This is because they are taking place in Scotland and she would love to experience the buzz of competing in front of a home crowd.

Morag said that she is training every day to try and get the time and is hugely excited about the prospect of representing Scotland. She is also hoping to get the time for the Olympic Games in Rio 2016. The 27 year old said that it would be very difficult, but she has been inspired by Dame Kelly Holmes, who won her first gold medal at the age of 33 years old.

She is currently splitting her time between work at Blairgowrie Dental Care and intensive training.
