Pedigree set to launch Dental Care Month

Dog food giant, Pedigree, is preparing to launch this year’s Dental Care Month campaign to raise awareness of oral health for dogs.

Figures show that a very high proportion of dogs suffer from gum disease and many owners are unaware that dogs need regular dental care. It is estimated that 4 out of 5 dogs suffer from gum disease and it is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Gum disease can be serious for dogs; however, it can be prevented by regular dental care, daily brushing and special dental chews.

Alistair Smith, Director for Specialist Pet Trade for Mars Petcare, said that everyone was very excited about Dental Care Month. The campaign has the potential to make a real difference to the oral health of dogs in the UK and a lot of owners will learn how to care for their dog’s teeth and gums.

To celebrate the event, some vets are offering free dental screening for dogs throughout the month of June.
