Patients sign up for plans to cover dental costs

As studies and surveys reveal a shocking proportion of British dental patients are forced to put payments for dental treatment on their credit cards, both financial and dental experts are encouraging patients to seek alternative ways to pay for dental care.

A recent survey carried out by Simply Health showed that almost 40 percent of Britons had paid for dental treatments over £50 on their credit card. For patients who don’t have access to NHS dental care, even basic dental treatments can cost a lot, with more complex treatments running into hundreds, even thousands of pounds.

Financial experts have advised patients to start considering wither dental insurance plans or health cash plans; health cash plans allow patients to claim a proportion of the costs back from their provider and also cover medical and ophthalmic treatments. The amount of money you get back will depend on the type of plan you have and patients must arrange and pay for the treatment before they can claim any money back. Health cash plans are beneficial for helping out with routine treatments, check-ups and everyday medical and dental care, rather than complex treatments.

Dental insurance plans cover both NHS and private dental care and also cover emergency dental care. Each policy is different so it’s worth doing a bit of research to see what you can get for your money; more comprehensive plans have a higher monthly premium but will offer more extensive cover, while cheaper plans will not offer all the perks and benefits of more expensive policies. Dental insurance can save a lot of money, especially for those that are prone to oral health issues and need regular treatment.

Private medical insurance is also an option but you will need to check the details of the policy carefully to check dental cover is included in the plan.
