More than two thousand people received free dental care at a two-day clinic in Arizona last weekend.

Dentist Greg Pafford, president of the Arizona Dental Association, repeatedly said that all the people who came to the clinic wanted for Christmas was “their two front teeth” and he was joined by a team of volunteer dentists, hygienists and dental nurses to work through huge queues of people who were desperate for dental treatment.

The clinic took place at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and there were more than 100 dental chairs in place.

Pafford said that the aim of the clinic was to help people in need and improve their quality of life, as well as relieving their pain; he was particularly keen to help those who had lost teeth, due to the impact this can have on the way people live their life.

In total, 2,200 people were treated at the clinic, which ran from Friday morning until Saturday evening and more than $1 million worth of care was provided free of charge.

The Mission of Mercy event was funded by donations from charities, local businesses and Delta Dental.

Treatments available at the clinic included extractions, cleaning treatments, pain relief and fillings.
