Oscar nominee Emma Stone reveals her perfect pearly whites are down to 7 years of wearing braces
She may be all smiles after receiving a nomination for an Oscar, but Emma Stone hasn’t always been so proud of her pearly whites,
The La La Land actress recently revealed that she wore braces for seven years, after damaging her teeth by sucking her thumb as a child. In an interview, the Hollywood starlet admitted that her childhood habit had a serious impact on the alignment of her teeth.
The 28-year old sucked her thumb until she was 11, and she needed seven years of treatment to undo the damage. Thumb sucking is a common cause of orthodontic problems, including protruding front teeth and misalignment of the upper and lower arches of teeth. By the time Emma reached her teenage years, she had a significant overbite, and she was advised to wear braces and a gate. Sometimes, she admits, she used to lift the gate and continue sucking her thumb, but she stuck with the braces, and in the end she got the smile she wanted. At the time, they stopped her getting jobs, but now, it looks as though the hard work has paid off.
