Opposition Desperate To Save Chronic Disease Dental Scheme In Australia

Sample News Big

The opposition party in Australia is campaigning to save the chronic disease dental scheme, which is due to be scrapped in the near future.

Peter Dutton, health spokesman for the Opposition, revealed notice of a disallowance motion on Tuesday. If the motion is passed, this would effectively stop the Labor government from abolishing the scheme.

Mr Dutton confirmed that there would be a vote within the next 15 sitting days and urged cross-bench MPs to support the motion.

Mr Dutton said that he was calling on the Labor backbenchers to support the motion, as it was clear that the Prime Minister and Health Minister, Tanya Plibersek would not listen to calls to save the CDDS.

Ms Plibersek revealed that the CDDS would be banished in favour of a new, more universal scheme, which would benefit millions of children and save the government money.

Despite the new scheme bringing good news for children, Mr Dutton is concerned that adults will have no access to the dental care they need because the CDDS will be closed down by the end of the this year and the new scheme will not come into play until 2014.
