One in Three Brits Using an Electric Toothbrush

New figures released today show a dramatic rise in sales of electric toothbrushes, as well as other dental products, according to analysts Kantar Worldpanel. Cosmetic dental treatments and private dental care have also seen a boost.

According to experts, one of the causes for this rise is the popularity of social media, particularly for sharing selfies and other photos, which has led to a record number of Brits striving to improve their teeth and achieve a Hollywood smile. As a result, toothpaste and toothbrush manufacturers are among the fastest growing health and beauty companies in the UK.

Colgate, Oral B, Aquafresh and mouthwash company Listerine are among the top 20 most chosen health and beauty brands in a huge boost for the dental industry.

Dentists have reported that the increase is not due to a desire for better general oral hygiene but a desire for whiter, brighter smiles.

Sales of whitening toothpaste and mouthwash are also up by over 10 per cent, a boost of £8 million to the market.

Social media has encouraged taking care of teeth, due to the effects healthy teeth can have on the look of the face, the main focus of a lot of “selfie” photography.
