One Dental Practice Opens as Another Closes in Bedfordshire

NHS Bedfordshire has announced major changes to try and improve existing dental services and protect the long-term future of Community Dental Services.

The trust has announced that a practice in Dunstable will close next month as part of the shake-up. Dunstable Health Centre in Priory Gardens will close by the end of October and the Community Dental Service will write to patients in the coming weeks to inform them of NHS Bedfordshire’s new plans to create a more efficient service with fewer practices.

As the Dunstable practice closes, a new dental centre will open in Bedford Square. The Houghton Regis Health Centre will be open to the public in November and dental clinics will continue to operate from Marsh Farm Health Centre and Liverpool Road Health Centre in Luton.

Tony Medwell, head of Primary Care Commissioning at NHS Bedfordshire, said that the changes will improve the efficacy and efficiency of NHS dental services. The changes will enable the same number of patients to achieve a better standard of care and also improve value for money for the NHS, which is extremely important in the current financial climate.
