A dental receptionist from Northamptonshire has been awarded the ‘best smile’ award by the Oral Health Foundation. Sharne Chester from Trinity Dental was crowned the winner of a national competition, which was launched to celebrate the 40th anniversary of National Smile Month.

Sharne was nominated for the award by her colleagues. Rebecca Shaw, clinic manager, said that Sharne (who is also a trainee dental nurse) is the first person patients see and her warm smile makes them feel comfortable straight away. Sharne is a very popular member of the team and everyone thought she was a great contender for the prize when the competition was announced. Sharne takes her patients’ welfare very seriously and she is always there to speak to nervous patients or check on those who have recently had treatment. She also contacted a number of local schools recently to find out about working with them on oral health projects in the near future.

Dr Nigel Carter OBE, chief executive of the Oral Health Foundation, said that Sharne is a very worthy winner of the title as she embodies everything that National Smile Month is about. She is eager to work on projects in the community, is committed to promoting healthy teeth and gums and always puts patients first. She also has a beautiful, beaming smile.

National Smile Month will run until mid-June. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the national campaign and practices all over the country are  taking part in events to try and spread the key messages of the campaign. This year, dental experts are keen to encourage patients to brush twice a day, limit their intake of sugary foods and drinks and visit their dentist on a regular basis.
