NHS Gloucestershire Apologises After Giving Out the Wrong Dental Helpline Number

NHS Gloucestershire has apologised after giving out the wrong telephone number to dental patients wishing to find out about services in the county.

Yesterday The Citizen published an article revealing that the number of patients visiting the dentist in Gloucestershire had fallen and the trust had missed its target for new patient registrations. NHS Gloucestershire gave out a number to encourage local people to find out more about the NHS dental services available to them; however, they accidentally published the wrong phone number.

NHS Gloucestershire has now apologised and corrected the mistake, urging people to call 08454 220 505 to find out where there are dental places available in the county.

Yesterday’s article revealed that patients in Gloucestershire are putting off having treatment as a result of cost, a problem which may be about to get worse, as prices are set to increase in April. The cost of a check-up will increase to £17.50.

Dentists in the county are worried that patients are risking their oral health in a bid to save money, however, putting off routine check-ups is likely to increase costs in the future, as oral health diseases get worse over the course of time and complex courses of treatment are much more expensive than band 1 basic treatments.
