NHS England confirms 30 urgent dental centres are now operating in the East Midlands
Patients who need urgent dental treatment in the East Midlands can now access emergency services provided by a network of 30 new hubs.
A series of secret clinics have opened in the region to provide patients with urgent dental care while practices across the UK are closed. The locations of the hubs have not been disclosed to prevent patients who don’t have an appointment turning up, but a spokesperson for NHS England has confirmed that 30 sites are now operational in the East Midlands.
There had been concern about a lack of access to dental services after practices closed in March, but NHS England and NHS Improvement have worked hard to establish a comprehensive network of urgent hubs to ensure patients get the assistance they need.
Health experts have stressed that these emergency centres are reserved for individuals who have an appointment and they are not providing routine care.
To get an appointment at an East Midlands centre, patients who are registered with a dentist should call their local surgery to have a telephone or online consultation with their dentist. If an appointment is required, the patient will then be referred to one of the urgent dental centres. Those who don’t have a dentist can call NHS 111. NHS 111 is also available for patients who need help or advice outside of practice working hours.
