A brand new, state of the art dental centre has opened to patients in the Western Isles.

The Western Isles Dental Centre, which consists of seven general surgeries and five training surgeries, has been built to provide patients in Lewis and Harris with excellent standards of care, as well as providing first class training facilities for dental students.

The new centre is equipped with the latest technology and provides spacious, modern and clean treatment and reception rooms for patients. Both salaried and independent dentists will work at the centre and local students will benefit from on the job learning, as well as excellent research and study facilities.

Dentists at the facility have started to treat patients and initial feedback has been very positive, but the centre will not be officially opened next month. The centre will be officially opened with a special ceremony next month and members of the public will be invited to attend an open day to have a look around the facility and learn about the services on offer at the centre.

Western Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, said that the centre was extremely important for local residents; in the past, there have been lengthy waiting lists and patients have found it very difficult to get dental treatment. Mr Allan said that the centre will make a huge difference to local people and help to improve access to dental services in the Western Isles.
