A new video has been produced and shared to highlight the dangers of illegal tooth whitening in Northern Ireland.

The clip, which is designed to educate people about the risks associated with illegal whitening, has been put together by the Department for the Economy Trading Standards Service and Northern Ireland’s Environmental Health Departments in conjunction with the General Dental Council.

In recent years, tooth whitening has become incredibly popular, but many patients are still unaware that this service can only be offered legally by trained, registered dental professionals.

Tooth whitening is a very effective treatment, and in the vast majority of cases, it is also very safe. However, there is always a risk of complications, especially when treatment is administered by practitioners who have no expertise or experience in dentistry or dental care. As tooth whitening is a dental service, it should only be offered by dental professionals who are registered with the General Dental Council.

There have been several cases involving patients who have been treated by practitioners illegally, and some people have suffered significant side-effects and injuries, including chemical burns.

The video is designed to ensure that people understand that they must see a trained, qualified dentist to receive professional whitening treatment, and also to encourage the public to report anyone who is offering whitening services without the relevant credentials.
