A new toothbrush has promised to keep periodontal disease at bay and prevent dentists from having to repeat costly procedures.

The Emmi-dent non-abrasive toothbrush claims to combat problems associated with periodontal disease and studies show that most people notice a difference after just two days.

The brush has already received positive feedback in Europe and is now available in the USA with a recommended retail price of $189. Stephen Spector, president of Emmi-tech in Canton, said that the brush is a value-for-money insurance policy for dentists, as the brush prevents oral diseases, whitens the teeth and improves oral health.

Dr Alisa Feldman, a paediatric dentist from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, said that she has had problems with staining caused by drinking coffee, which were causing her to feel embarrassed when she smiled. However, after visiting her dentist and having treatment with the Emmi-dent brush, she has noticed a real difference and feels much more confident.

Dr Roland Streckbein, a German implantologist, was one of the first dental professionals to give a patient an Emmi-dent brush following treatment and said that the healing process was much faster and that there were no complications.
