New Study Shows Huge Regional Variations in Private Dental Fees

A new study has revealed significant regional variations in private dental fees.

Data gathered from more than 12,000 dental clinics across the UK revealed differences of more than 700 per cent between the most and least expensive clinics.

The average cost of a check-up came in at £36. However, there was a massive difference between the highest and lowest fees for this service. One clinic in Bristol charged £125 for a dental check, while one based in London charged just £15.

The survey was completed by WhatClinic.com and showed the benefits of shopping around for dental care. Director Emily Ross said that the findings show how much money patients can save by comparing costs and spending a little time researching clinics in their local area and considering travelling further afield for a course of treatment.

The cost of tooth whitening, an extremely popular cosmetic dental service, ranged from £205 in Liverpool to £364 in London, while root canal treatment cost an average of £253. Reading was the most expensive place to have root canal treatment, with fees reaching £325, while patients in Glasgow enjoyed the best rates, with fees of £158.

Private dentists set their own fees and prices usually reflect running costs and location. However, there are guidelines set by the General Dental Practitioner’s Association to give a general idea.
