A new dental clinic has been officially opened at Oamaru North School.

The $400,000 clinic has been purpose built to serve children in the local area; the clinic has two dental chairs and will provide free dental care for children aged between 3 and 12 years old. The clinic boasts digital X-ray machines, modern equipment and a stylish interior.

The new clinic will replace part-time dental services in Oamaru Intermediate School and schools in Fenwick and Weston and mobile services in Totara, Pembroke, Maheno, Hampden and Papakaio.

The new centre will employ four full-time members of staff, including dental assistants and dental therapists.

Children will be encouraged to attend regular dental appointments and members of staff at the clinic will talk to children about oral hygiene and ways to look after their teeth and gums.
