New hearing aid attaches to teeth

Sample News Big

A new hearing aid that is worn over one of your back teeth has been unveiled to the world.

SoundBite, which is attached to one of your back molars, uses a wireless microphone which is hidden behind your ear to hear sound. The sound is then retransmitted using bone conduction. Through the jaw the sound stimulates the cochlea.

This new hearing aid, which has not yet been releases into the mainstream market, has been billed as the solution to many problems that are associated with modern day hearing aids.

Eliminating the need to have pins drilled into your skull, the aid also removes the need for hard of hearing patients to have any machinery surgically embedded, which can be hard to upgrade as technology develops.

SoundBite just slips over the tooth so it can be easily removed and it is charged inductively.

Final trials on the devices are still on-going.
