A brand new dental school has opened at the University of Central Lancashire.

The new dental centre, which cost £1.4 million, was officially opened on the University of Central Lancashire’s Preston campus by Vice-Chancellor of the university, Malcolm McVicar on the 27th September.

The state of the art dental clinic provides first-class teaching facilities and access to modern resources, as well as enabling local people to benefit from reduced-rate dental care. Students will be given the opportunity to develop and hone their clinical skills on campus, while residents will be able to get the treatment they need at competitive prices.

The clinic will operate treatment services under the Denplan scheme, which enables patients to pay a fixed rate each month for treatment and university students will also be able to take advantage of the favourable rates, as they can use credits from UCLan Advantage scheme, which has been specifically designed for university students.

Speaking at the launch of the school, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education, said that the opening of the dental clinic was a very exciting development for the university and an opportunity for students to access state of the art facilities, as well as enabling university students and members of staff to get treatment without leaving campus. The university is now one of a very small number of universities to offer clinical training on-site for dental students.
