NHS East of England has confirmed that two new dental practices will open in King’s Lynn.

Following a procurement process to find new providers in Norfolk, Smile Care Norfolk has been awarded two contracts in the west of the county. The locations of the new clinics have not yet been revealed. There is no opening date at the moment, but the practices will open to patients by July 1st 2022.

Norfolk is one of the worst affected areas in terms of dental access. The two new contracts around King’s Lynn will provide thousands of patients with access to local NHS dental services.

A spokesperson for the NHS said that services will be “delivered at premises accessible to serve the main population densities and located near good public transport links and road networks.”

The new contracts will cover services for adults and children, with practices open between 8am and 8pm seven days a week. Routine appointments will be available, as well as same-day appointments for urgent cases.

James Wild, MP for North West Norfolk, welcomed the news. Improving access to dental services is something Mr Wild has been campaigning for over two years and he has issued several calls to increase capacity in the area.

Both of the new contracts awarded to Smile Care Norfolk are for 22,000 units of dental activity per year.

Further information about the clinics will be provided for patients who are looking for a dentist in due course.
