New Dental Clinic set to open in Selwyn, New Zealand

Selwyn’s first dental clinic is set to open soon, it has been confirmed.

The new clinic, which is located on the Lincoln Maternity Hospital site, is due to open in September or October. Dental nurses who are currently working at primary schools in Rolleston and Lincoln will be transferred to the new community dental clinic when it opens; nurses and dentists will also work on a mobile dental unit, which will travel around local schools.

Spokesman for the project, Jason Hopper, said that the clinic was expected to be within budget and should be up and running by the end of September. The $9000 project is part of a $13 million investment in community dental services in Canterbury and part of a national investment in oral health services. New clinics have already opened in Ashburton, Hornby, Rangiora, Hillmorton, Akaroa and Kaiapoi and clinics will open soon in Northcote, Kaikoura, Woolston, Burnside and Aranui.

The new fixed-location clinics will replace school dental clinics; they will be supported by mobile units, which will travel around schools and children who need further treatment will be referred to the community clinics.

The new Lincoln dental clinic will have four dental chairs.
