A new dental clinic has opened to the public at the Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, New South Wales

The facility will provide treatments and services to members of the public, as well as providing exceptional training facilities for dental students. Doctor Amelia Foster said that the new clinic will be mutually beneficial for local people and students from Charles Sturt University. Students will start training at the clinic next year and they will provide dental treatment at heavily reduced rates, which will improve access to affordable dental care for people in the Bathurst area.

Dr Foster is also hoping that the opening of the clinic will encourage students to stay on in the area once they qualify; there is a shortage of dentists in rural areas and health chiefs are eager for more newly qualified dentists to work in these areas, rather than flocking to the big cities. Dr Foster is also hoping that the clinic will encourage local people to visit a dentist; many people avoid the dentist because of the cost so hopefully offering discounted treatment will enable people to see their dentist on a regular basis.
