A new dental clinic has opened next to Marlborough Girls’ School in Blenheim,

The Marlborough Oral Health Clinic opened its doors yesterday and the main aim of the clinic is to improve dental care for primary and pre-school children. A sign saying, ‘Healthy smile, healthy child’ has been displayed on the clinic and staff are looking forward to working with local children and raising awareness of the importance of oral health.

Jenny Black, chairwoman of the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board, said that the new oral health clinic will help to improve access to dental care for young children, which in turn, will hopefully have a positive effect on standards of oral health amongst children living in the area. A mobile clinic will also take to the roads from next April to serve children who live in rural areas.

The clinic was officially opened yesterday by dental therapist Andrea Carr and Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne. Staff will spend two weeks learning how to use the computer system and getting the clinic ready before the first patients are treated, with the clinic operating in under two weeks time. The new clinic will open from 8.30am until 5pm and parents will be encouraged to make regular appointments for their children.
