Just a few yards away from a private dental clinic that no longer accepts NHS patients, a new dental practice is expected to open, pending the acceptance of an application submitted to Stockton Borough Council to convert a former electrical shop into an.

The move comes in the wake of a huge demand for NHS dentistry in the Billingham area, and according to the application will have seven dental surgeries, and provide NHS dental care, as well as emergency services, family care and promotion of oral health in the Billingham community. It would be open Mondays to Fridays with a reduced Saturday service operated by 17 full-time staff.

The company proposing the new surgery, Burgess-Hyder, are aiming to cater for NHS patients who previously had access to treatment but have been left without a dental surgery. The decision for Queensway Dental Practice, located near to the new proposed location, to no longer accept NHS patients after 25 years this April led to concerns for people reliant on NHS care.

The public consultation period for the application will conclude on 31st October.
