Never too early for orthodontic treatment, says expert

Having orthodontic treatment is not something that should be avoided, it has been claimed.

Dr J Peter St Clair told the Georgetown Record that although some people do not think their children’s teeth need a brace, problems can occur later on in life.

He said that choosing not to have orthodontic treatment can lead to malocclusion – bad bite, crowded teeth, jaw misalignment, overbites or underbites.

Dr St Clair explained that orthodontists do not just straighten teeth but improve patients’ health and appearance.

"The fact of the matter is that today, the modern orthodontic approach involves examining the child as a whole person and not just his teeth," he claimed.

Early intervention is vital, he continued, claiming it can improve the development of the face as the child grows older.

The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry reports that 27 per cent of people think cosmetic dentistry could improve their quality of life.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18431261-ADNFCR
