Nashville set for massive free dental event

Residents in Nashville are set to benefit from a massive two-day health event next month.

The free health clinic will be held at the McGavock High School; during the event, the gymnasium will be converted into fifty dental stations and other areas of the school will be set up to offer vision and medical services and treatments. A mobile lab which will make glasses will also be located on site to enable people to pick up their new glasses shortly after their eye appointment.

Over the course of the event, volunteers are hoping to treat around two thousand patients; organisers say that they have secured the services of volunteer doctors and nurses for the event, which will be held on the 19th and 20th February, but are still looking for dentists, dental assistants and opticians.

There will be a range of treatments and services on offer at the clinic and it is hoped that the clinic will help hundreds of people in need; increasingly, people are relying on free health clinics in the USA because they cannot afford to pay the regular fees and many do not have medical or dental insurance.

The Nashville clinic is being run by Remote Area Medical, an organisation based in Knoxville which has already organised more than 600 weekend clinics.
