Narberth Councillor Raises Concerns Over the Future of Local NHS Dental Surgery

Sample News Big

Narberth councillor Sue Rees has raised concerns over plans to cancel the NHS dental contract at a local surgery. Councillor Rees discovered that the contract will not be renewed on April 1st and is worried that nobody seems to know what is going on and what the future holds for Narberth patients.

There are two other dental clinics in Narberth, but both are private. Councillor Rees said that she was aware that new practices have opened in Milford and Whitland, but patient places have been snapped up very quickly and there is concern that patients currently registered with the Narberth practice will be unable to join a local register.

Councillor Rees stated that she understood that it was not members of staff at the practice who were responsible for making the decision not to renew the contract and she believes that the surgery was keen to retain the contract.

A spokesman for Hywel Dda University Health Board said that the contract was only a temporary measure, which was put into place following the death of one of the contractors. The current contract in Narberth is due to cease on the 29th March and the health board is currently considering other applications as part of a commissioning process.
