Mydentist, one of the UK’s leading dental chains, has revealed a pay increase for its dental nurses. The firm, which employs 4,000 dental nurses around the country, will guarantee a minimum hourly wage of £8.70 from the 1st April.

The dental company has also shared plans to invest in career progression programmes for nurses as part of a funding injection worth £2.5 million.

Under new guidelines, mydentist will also divide nursing staff into five graded levels, which will reflect experience and salary. Each level will have a guaranteed minimum rate of pay.

Tom Riall, chief executive of the IDH Group, said that the move was a means of showing how important nurses are to the company and encouraging existing members of staff to continue and develop their careers with mydentist. Additional investment in nursing services will enable mydentist dental nurses to enjoy competitive salaries and involvement in a programme, which provides them with an insight into what can be achieved at the company in specific timeframes.

As part of the shake-up, five levels of nursing will be introduced, including students, qualified dental nurses, qualified nurses with a minimum of 2 years of experience and registration with the GDC, advanced dental nurses as well as head dental nurses. As well as reflecting the pay grade, the level will also define different roles and encourage nurses to work towards the next rung on the ladder.
