Mydentist confirms Dundee practice closure

Mydentist has confirmed that one of its Dundee dental practices will close at the end of March.

The chain is shutting the clinic in Finlarig Terrace in Fintry on March 31st. The closure will result in two job losses and leave thousands looking for a new dentist.

Patients have recently received a letter explaining the reasons for the closure of the Fintry practice and providing advice for finding a new dental practice. Mydentist representatives explained that staff shortages were the primary reason for closing the practice. The company has not been able to fill vacancies for dentists and this means that it is no longer viable to keep the surgery open.

Recruitment issues are affecting dental providers across the UK, with many practices struggling to find dentists. Data suggests that over 2,000 dentists have either retired, left the profession or switched to private dentistry since 2020.

Patients who have appointments booked before the end of March have been encouraged to attend as normal but appointments for April and beyond have been cancelled.

Many Fintry residents have expressed their disappointment at the news. One patient said they had been waiting over a year to have treatment and for several months, the communication with the practice has been poor. They added that they felt as though they had wasted the last year when they could have been looking for a new practice.

News of the impending closure of the Fintry practice comes days after confirmation of another surgery in nearby Tayport shutting due to staff shortages.
