Construction is set to begin on a new, multimillion pound health centre in Swansea this summer, it has been revealed.

The development project, which will cost around 7 million pounds, will create one of Wales’ largest health centres and local people will benefit from an array of medical and dental services. The new facility will house existing health centres, including Tawe Medical Centre and Port Tennant surgery and Eastside Dental Care will also relocate to the site. A range of services usually found only in hospitals will also be available at the health centre. Patients requiring anticoagulant Warfarin treatment will be able to attend clinics at the centre and specialist musculoskeletal clinics will also be available.

Students from the Swansea School of Medicine and the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board will also make use of the facility.

The project has received backing from the Welsh Assembly and the city council and Will Griffiths, Chairman of the Health Board, says that the development will make a huge difference to people in the local area, as well as putting Swansea on the map.

Building will begin in the summer and the health centre will open its doors to patients next year.
