Mouth Cancer Foundation Showcasing 2 Minute Life Saving Presentation

Sample News Big

The Mouth Cancer Foundation is presenting its ‘2 minutes to save a life’ presentation at the Dental Showcase.

The aim of the presentation is to encourage dentists to perform 2 minute examinations, which could potentially save a patient’s life; this is all it takes to spot the warning signs of oral cancer.

Dentists attending the showcase will be able to learn more about oral cancer and discuss the presentation with Nicki Rowland, a consultant from the Mouth Cancer Foundation, who will be talking about the importance of checks for head and neck cancer during routine dental check-ups.

The officially titled ‘Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme’ is urging every dental practice throughout the UK to promote 2 minute live-saving routine oral cancer checks. The ‘2 minutes to save a life’ campaign promotes the use of a 10 point checklist, which makes it easy for dentists to identify any potential symptoms that hint at mouth cancer.

Dr Vinod Joshi, founder of the MCF, said that the initiative will save lives and is particularly important, as figures show that the number of cases of mouth cancer is rising year on year, yet public awareness of the disease remains low.

Dentists who become members of the scheme will be able to view a special segment of the charity’s website, as well as an hour of CPD (continued professional development).
