More Women Embracing Their Imperfect Smile

Cosmetic dentistry has boomed over the last decade, with thousands of people choosing to have treatment to enjoy the perfect smile, but it seems that there may be an emerging trend, for a more natural look.

According to Sameer Patel, from London’s Elleven Dental, which specialises in cosmetic and orthodontic treatment, there has been a shift towards a more natural look and many people are now choosing to embrace what nature gave them.

Celebrities, such as Keira Knightley and Georgia Jagger, have made the flawed smile not only more acceptable, but also more popular. Jagger has been selected for numerous high profile campaigns, despite the fact she has a clear gap between her front teeth and this quirky look is now very much in demand. Lara Stone and Madonna also have a gappy smile and the look became so desirable that many dentists reported an increase in patients actively seeking to increase the gap between their front teeth.

Dr Patel said that a perfect set of straight, bright white teeth is not always seen as the most beautiful option and a person’s smile should compliment their facial features. Beauty is subjective and quirky imperfections are often what make people different and unique.

According to polls, more women have also started celebrating thicker, more unkempt eyebrows and freckles, which have long been considered a sign of beauty, but became less popular when the ultra-tanned, beach Goddess look became fashionable.
