More Than 4000 Warrington Children Wait Required Extractions Last Year

Concerns for the future of children’s oral health have been raised, as more than 4,000 children required extractions in Warrington alone last year.

Figures from NHS Digital show that 4,200 children had teeth removed in the 12-month period leading up to June 2016, while only 60 per cent of children saw a dentist in the same period. Dentists recommend visiting the dentist at least once a year from the age of twelve months.

The number of dentists working in the Warrington area has increased from 52 to 77 dentists per 100,000 people. Figures also show that 57.8 percent of adults in Warrington attended a dental appointment between June 2015 and June 2016. More than 18,000 adult patients required extraction treatment.

A spokesperson for NHS England said that the figures show that many people are not taking advantage of the NHS dental services available to them. If you’re not already registered with an NHS dental practice, you can find details of practices that are accepting new patients on the NHS Choices website. NHS dental care is available free of charge for children and adults who receive certain benefits.
