Recent figures suggest that more people are visiting an NHS dentist than ever before in the Bradford and Airedale region.

A new report from the Health and Social Care Information Centre compares figures from this March this year with March 2006; the statistics show that there has been an increase in the number of people registered with an NHS dentist from 53.5 per cent of the population in 2006 to 54.9 per cent of the population in 2012.

Figures are also promising for children; the proportion of children registered with an NHS dentist has increased from 64.7 per cent in 2006 to 70 per cent in 2012.

NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds have been working hard to improve access to NHS dental services and encourage people to use the services available to them. Despite the positive figures, there is still a way to go and the trust is hoping to increase patient visits even more in the coming years.

New practices have opened in the area and additional funding, which was secured from the Department of Health at the beginning of this year was used to allow 4,000 people who had not seen a dentist for two years to have a free dental check-up. The trust is also planning to host more open days in the autumn to encourage more people to register with their dentist.
