Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic set for Grand Island

Sample News Big

A Mission of Mercy dental clinic will take place this Friday and Saturday at Fonner Park in Grand Island.

Doors will open at 5am for registration and the clinic will operate between 5:30 am and 5 pm, with appointments allocated on a first come, first served basis and organisers are encouraging people to get there early to avoid disappointment.

A range of treatments will be provided free of charge, including fillings, tooth extraction, oral surgery, cleaning treatments and children’s dentistry. A limited number of root canal procedures will also be carried out. Volunteer dentists and dental assistants will also be on hand to provide information and advice about oral health and oral hygiene.

The event will be sponsored by Nebraska Dental Association, Nebraska Mission of Mercy, the Grand Island Independent and Central Nebraska Health Department.

Dr Steve Anderson, co-chair of this year’s event, said that around 40 hygienists and 140 dentists are volunteering their time and skills and he hopes that the clinic will provide care for around 2,500 patients.

Mission of Mercy clinics have become increasingly popular in recent years, as many people are now struggling to afford dental care on top of rent and mortgage payments and basic living costs. In many cases, people queue for hours out in the cold to secure an appointment.
