The Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia has announced plans to open six new dental clinics in the kingdom.

The MOH made the announcement on Saturday, confirming proposals to build six new specialist dental centres at a cost of SR460 million. Funding will be made available as part of the ministry’s health budget this year.

Dr Mohammed Al-Rafee, the Director General of the Dentistry Department within the MOH, confirmed that new centres will open in the holy city of Makkah, Samtah, Taif, Qatif, Al-Ahsa and Al-Kharj. The specialist centres will have more than 400 dental clinics between them.

The new centres will ease pressure and strain on existing hospitals and provide comprehensive dental care for dental patients in the respective regions. Al-Rafee confirmed that the centres will enable people to receive treatment without having to travel long distances.

Al-Rafee also confirmed that the Ministry of Health has launched a new initiative, which is supervised by The Saudi Commission for Health Specialities, to improve dental services across the country.

Al-Rafee said that the department was eager to keep up with dental developments and provide patients with state of the art facilities and the best treatments available. Last year, 280 dental clinics opened in the kingdom, which represents a growth rate of 12.57 per cent.
