A man who attacked his friend has escaped jail after he saved enough money to pay for dental treatment.

Dean Williams, from Melksham, broke his friend’s jaw after kicking him during an argument, which arose during a game of squash.

Mr Williams, practiced in Kung Fu, was told by a judge that he would escape a jail sentence if he paid for his friend Liam Walsh’s dental treatment. Mr Williams has now walked free from court after saving up a total of £3,700 over the course of three months.

Liam Walsh will now use the money to pay for treatment and he requires a six month course of treatment to realign his bite damaged during the fight.

Judge Euan Ambrose said that the case was very unusual. Sitting at Swindon Crown Court, the Judge kept his word and suspended the sentence for a year. Dean Williams was also ordered to do 150 hours of community service.

Williams and Walsh had been very close friends for over five years when the incident occurred during one of their regular games of squash. The argument started over the score and Mr Williams kicked Walsh in the face, smashing a tooth and fracturing his jaw in two places.
