Malvern dentists continue to support Chernobyl children

Dentists from Malvern continue to support children from Chernobyl by providing them with dental care. The team from Beacon Dental Care in Malvern Link has now been supporting the charity Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline for eight years.

Every year, a group of children from the Chernobyl area visit Malvern as part of a charity project rub by Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline. This year, a group of twelve children came over to England to stay with host families. During their time, they were treated to dental care and some days out.

Dentist David Watson said that the impact of Chernobyl is long-lasting. May of the children’s parents weren’t even born at the time of the nuclear disaster, but they still suffer from health problems. Standards of oral health tend to be very low among the children that visit the surgery and the dental team can often sense the relief when they provide pain-saving treatment. For many children, this is the first time they’ve visited a dental surgery, and they are incredibly grateful for the care they receive.

The dental team puts a lot of effort into making the experience pain and stress-free for the children and they try and make it as fun as possible. While the children waited to see the dentist, they were able to play with toys and colour in pictures. They were also given a goody bag to take home by members of staff.
