Low prices make overseas clinics a popular choice for patients looking for cosmetic dental treatment

Low prices are making overseas clinics an attractive proposition for patients in the UK looking to undergo cosmetic dental treatment.

TV shows like Love Island and the rise of social media and the selfie trend have contributed to a growing interest in the perfect smile. When Love Island’s first winter series launched in January, there was a 100% increase in Google searches for ‘veneers Thailand’ after contestant, Connor, showcased a gleaming white smile he obtained while visiting the Asian country. A survey carried out by Barclays found that 59% of people would be willing to spend money on treatment to get a more attractive smile, but the average price they would pay was £1,121, which wouldn’t cover most cosmetic treatments in the UK.

In a bid to secure that Instagram-worthy smile, more and more people are considering travelling abroad to take advantage of cheaper fees. Eastern Europe has long been a popular spot for British dental tourists, and more far-flung destinations like Bali and Thailand are attracting more attention than ever before.

While seeing a dentist abroad can save patients a huge amount of money on treatments like dental veneers, implants and cosmetic braces, dentists in the UK are keen to point out that there are risks involved. Standards are very high in the UK, and going abroad might open patients up to an increased risk of infections and complications. There are also additional costs, for example, flights and accommodation, to consider.
