Locals in the Bunbury area of Western Australia are hoping that a new dental clinic will help to cut waiting times.

A new dental clinic is currently under construction in Bunbury and local people are hoping that it will make dental care more accessible; currently waiting times in the area are around 21 months and residents are fed up of having to wait for so long for routine dental treatment.

The new Bunbury clinic, which is due to open in August, will be staffed by fifth year university dental students from Edith Cowan University; the clinic will provide reduced rate dental care and the students will be supervised by senior dental practitioners.

John Cochrane, from the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia, said that the new dental centre will provide excellent training facilities for students and help to tackle the growing waiting lists in the area. It is also hoped that the centre will encourage more dentists to stay in Western Australia once they have qualified.
