West Dorchester MP, Oliver Letwin, has opened a new dental practice in  Dorchester.

Mr Letwin visited the new practice in South Walks to join members of staff in a celebratory opening of the surgery and found himself on familiar turf, as the building was previously home to the Conservative Club.

South Coast Dental Specialists has opened a new centre in South Walks after the success of their Wimborne facility. The new practice will treat patients living in the west of the county and there are also training facilities on-site.

Graham Downing, principal dentist, said that the Wimborne practice has become very busy and many of the patients are from Dorchester, so it made sense to open a new practice, which is more conveniently located for patients and allows room for expansion for the group. The new facility is much larger that the team was originally looking for, but it gives them scope for the future.

The new practice will have a team of five dentists, three dental nurses and a practice manager.

Mr Letwin, who cut the rope to proclaim the new practice officially open, said that it was nostalgic to return to the former Conservative Club; he added that he is filled with optimism after seeing the surgery, which he described as a “really high class operation.”
