A six year old girl from Llanduysul, Wales, is all smiles after winning a national art competition. Chardonnay Evans was one of 12 winners of the competition, which required young artists to submit a picture with an oral health theme.

Chardonnay’s winning picture, along with the other winner’s entries, will feature on the cover of the British Dental Journal. The competition was open to nursery and primary school children all over Wales.

Helen Edwards, from Designed to Smile, which helped to promote the competition, said that it was great news for the children to win. She also said it was a brilliant way to celebrate oral health and raise awareness of the importance of good dental health.

The competition was launched to encourage children to take an interest in oral health and to adopt a good daily oral hygiene routine.

In addition to having their winning pictures published on the cover of the British Dental Journal, the winners also receive £200 for their school and £100 worth of books for themselves.

Designed to Smile is a programme, which is designed to raise the profile of oral health in Wales and reduce rates of dental decay amongst children in Wales.
