Lisburn Dental Team Takes on the Ice Bucket Challenge

Sample News Big

A dental team from Lisburn has followed in the footsteps of celebritie such as David and Victoria Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mark Wahlberg, by taking part in the ice bucket challenge to raise money and awareness for charity.

The ice bucket challenge has swept the world, with thousands of people posting videos of themselves being covered in icy cold water on social media sites. The aim of the ice bucket challenge, which originated in the USA, was to raise money for the ALS Foundation, but many people and companies have decided to support other motor neurone charities and the team from C D Fair Dental has donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Staff members took great delight in drenching each other with buckets of freezing cold water in a team challenge, which saw water flying everywhere and lots of screaming. Colin Fair said that the team was up for the challenge last Friday and everyone had great fun, despite being a little chilly.

The team decided to back the campaign to raise awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Motor neurone disease is a serious, progressive neurological disorder that tends to advance very quickly and leaves people unable to live independently. Currently, there is no cure for the disease and it is fatal.

Head of community fundraising at the MND Association, Denise Davies, thanked the Lisburn team for their support and said that without the help of individual people and businesses, it wouldn’t be possible to provide motor neurone sufferers with the degree of emotional guidance and practical advice they need. The money raised will also hopefully make a massive difference in terms of research and the pursuit of a cure and effective treatments.
